The Baroque Marble Hall of Mirabell Palace is considered to be one of the most beautiful and historically significant concert halls in Austria. In its glory days, the Mozart family performed here for Salzburg´s royalty. 

Every year the Patti and Allan Herbert Frost School of Music Program at Salzburg students compete for the chance to sing a public performance In this glorious venue.

The competition is held during the first week of the program with the performances scheduled during the first week of August.

On your application, please be sure to include:

  • Your full name
  • Voice category
  • Contact phone in the US prior to departure
  • Title of composition
  • Composer(s) with birth and death dates
  • The exact timing of each composition
  • YouTube link of your audition

The following will be used for the printed program information:

  • Poet’s full name
  • The full title of your selection
  • Composer(s) with birth and death dates
  • A short, one-paragraph autobiographical sketch about yourself
A pianist will be provided, which will be determined by the resident faculty.

Try to make your program varied, by including repertoire by American, British (or Canadian) composers that you consider appropriate for your vocal category. If you have them, you can include a set of works from the Golden Age of the Musical Theater (must be legitimate).

Winner's Recital

Winners will be chosen for excellence in singing as well as for the interest of their program.

The repertoire listed on the program must be learned, polished, and performed.

The winner’s recital is a public concert and tickets are sold!

Participants considering competing for this opportunity should bring a tuxedo (men) or long gown (women) to Salzburg.
